Virginia Diamond is Special Counsel with Ashcraft & Gerel, LLP, where she heads the firm’s labor law practice, representing workers and unions.

She served for six years as Chair of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. She was also Special Assistant to the President of the United Auto Workers Union, where she supported the president’s vision of fundamental change within unions to make them relevant to a 21st century global economy. Virginia studied German and Japanese labor/management models, and helped the UAW develop an approach that emphasizes collaboration, joint problem-solving and flexibility. Virginia has taught at the Building Trades Academy and the National Labor College.

Virginia earned a B.A. from Yale University, a master’s degree from Columbia University Teacher’s College and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was on the editorial board of the Law Review.
